Carpathian vision – prosperous and independent people

Carpathian vision – prosperous and independent people

On the Carpathian Day, which was celebrated for the first time on September 26 this year, the activists of the nature protection movement tried to draw attention not only to the beauty of our mountains, but also to the problems that we need to solve together.

Various events took place in Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine, which you can read about on the special page of the Carpathian Convention. And we had an interesting conversation on the virtual discussion place about the traditions of the Carpathians and the further development and support of traditional farming in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

Ukraine is already a part of the general movement of Carpathian pastoralism to be included in the World Heritage list of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.

Ukrainian farmers develop mountain farmsteads despite all the difficulties of current life. They produce products that are recognized by consumers and experts – organic certification, geographical indications, awards at exhibitions. Carpathian farmers strive to support each other by joining together in associations, helping their colleagues to spread information and sell products.

Participants of our recent trip to Transcarpathia from neighboring countries share their impressions and reflect on possible cooperation with Ukrainian farmers, already according to the rules of the European Union, which Ukraine is seeking to join.

Noting the successes of Ukrainian owners, our colleagues draw attention to the peculiarities of the common market and new problems that may be faced soon. But we and our colleagues from the EU countries have the same vision of our common future: prosperous and independent people, who are able to defend their rights, protect and restore the environment, apply innovative solutions to combat the climate crisis, think creatively and strategically in harmony with nature.

We thank all participants of our discussion!

Our project is going on. Detailed conclusions and proposals of the discussion place will be distributed in the nearest future and will be included in the final publication. The next discussion, with the participation of government officials of Ukraine and the EU, will take place in early November. Follow our information.
