Organic production – example of positive changes

Organic production – example of positive changes

For 30th anniversary of “Green Dossier”

The initial focus was on opposing GMOs, Monsanto potatoes in Ukraine, and contributing to the development of international biosafety legislation, such as the Cartagena Protocol.

However, the need for a positive alternative soon emerged. This led to the creation of Ukraine’s first documentary film, “Where the City Ends”, which explores the very issue  of  growing organic, healthy food.

Over time, the topic of organic farming increasingly dominated our efforts. This included conducting market research, organizing a Ukrainian pavilion at Biofach—the world’s largest trade fair in Nuremberg—and developing a Ukrainian logo for organic products. The organic movement in Ukraine has since grown into a significant force, recognized globally and acknowledged by the Ukrainian government.

As active participants in this movement, we contribute to the development and implementation of legislation, collaborate with international organisations such as IFOAM – Organic International, IFOAM Organics Europe, and FiBL, and provide support to enthusiasts of the Ukrainian organic movement.

At the onset of the big war, in partnership with the Organic Initiative, we launched a grant program for organic producers. With the support of donors and the cooperation of various organisational representatives, we successfully assisted over a hundred operators and continue to advance our efforts in this area.

Our video library features a wide range of popular and specialized films, along with short videos on organic production. Additionally, our dedicated website, organicinfo.ua, serves as a unique repository of knowledge, offering the latest information on all aspects of organic production in Ukraine and around the globe.

Two years ago, Ukraine became part of the EU Organic Day celebration, and today a conference dedicated to Organic Day is being held, offering the latest information on organic production in Ukraine.
