The Ukrainian agricultural sector plays a key role in the national economy and has significant export potential, in particular to the EU countries, which are Ukraine’s main trading partner. However, integration into the EU requires adaptation to the new environmental and climate standards of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The lack of awareness of these requirements among Ukrainian farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as public organizations, and the inability to participate in the formation of EU policies are significant obstacles. However, negotiations on environmental and agricultural clusters in the process of enlargement and Ukraine’s inclusion in the future EU CAP require an active dialogue with all stakeholders.
The project aims to
- promote the involvement of Ukrainian CSOs in the processes of discussing the future of the EU agricultural sector and developing of a strategic dialogue in Ukraine;
- to contribute to raising the awareness of Ukrainian agrarians regarding the new requirements of agrarian policy and EU legislation regarding environmental protection.
In this project we will
- conduct research on tools for involving civil society in policy-making processes in the EU, study the experience of our colleagues from CSOs from EU member states in strategic dialogue and advocacy tools;
- discuss the experience of colleagues with representatives of Ukrainian CSOs;
- provide expert consultations for our farmers on the urgent needs caused by the latest decisions and changes in the EU legislation (on separate topics) with the participation of representatives of the European Commission, agricultural associations and farmers;
- constantly inform the target audience about the changes taking place in the agricultural sector of the EU.
Expected project results
- Increasing the institutional capacity of Ukrainian civil society organizations and strengthening their participation in EU policy discussions.
- Increasing the awareness of agrarians about environmental standards and requirements of CAP.
- Creating a basis for dialogue between Ukrainian and European stakeholders, which will contribute to Ukraine’s integration into the European agricultural space.
- Strengthening the position of the Ukrainian agricultural sector in negotiations with the EU.
